Classes of 1956-60 Discussion Forum
The Classes of 1956 to 1960 Reunion will begin on Friday, October 6, 2006.
Message from Sharon Welch Ledbetter:
I hope your 2006 is off to a good start. We are just about five months
away from our big Alpine High School reunion event at Indian Lodge in Ft.
Davis, so let this serve as a reminder, and I hope you are making plans to
attend. Whatever has kept you away from other reunions, don’t let it keep
you away this time!!!!!!! Tell all your friends about it who might not know
or have received the information. Everyone is welcome! We want to keep
everyone informed about the up coming activities and hope you will share the
information with anyone you know who attended Alpine High School that might
not be aware of the approaching reunion. I have heard from many who are
planning to be there, and invites are going to classes from the early 1950’s
to 1960. The class of 1956 is planning for their 50th year reunion to
coincide with ours and will join us for many activities, and we will also
join them for some of their activities. Make your plans right now and don’t
miss it!!!!!
I would like to let you know that there are a few rooms left at the Lodge.
If anyone is interested they could still plan to stay at the newly
renovated, historic, Indian Lodge. Foster will be turning those rooms back
to the Lodge in July or August. If you want to arrange for a room at the
Indian Lodge, please do so through Bevin Maxam, Group Reservations
Coordinator, Indian Lodge State Park, 432-426-3254 ext, 338. Be sure to tell
her you are with the Alpine High School Reunion group, October 6-9, 2006. If
you need any additional information regarding this reunion, such as hotels,
restaurants, etc. please let me know and I will be happy to do whatever to
see you get all you need. We did send that information in an earlier mail
out.
Our tentative agenda is:
Friday, October 6, 2006
| 4:00 pm | Registration will begin in the small conference room at Indian Lodge in Ft. Davis. A memorabilia table will be set up for you to share your keepsakes from your high school days. Please have them labeled so we can make sure you get them back before you leave. The large conference room will be available for mingling and visiting with drinks and snacks. | |
| 5:00 pm | The class of 1956 will be gathering and registering at the Maverick Inn in Alpine (near Sul Ross). They invite other classes to come there as well. Carol Lewis and Bake Turner are organizing an evening of music at the Maverick Inn Lounge for all those interested. |
Saturday, October 7, 2006
| ? am | Registration will continue in the small conference room at the Indian Lodge. The large conference room will be available for visiting and reminiscing all day. A Continental breakfast, snacks, and drinks will be available. | |
| 9:00 am | The class of 1956 has planned a walking tour of downtown Alpine, which will meet at Brewster County Court House. | |
| 11:00 am | At the Old High School, which we attended, on West Sul Ross Avenue there will be an assembly presided over by Judge Fred Davis, Billy Cowell (class of 1953), and Ray Hendryx, the President of the Alpine School Board will talk about AHS yesterday and today. | |
| 12:30 pm | A fajita lunch will be available at the current Alpine High School Cafetorium, prepared by the Alpine High School FFA club. | |
| Evening | We will have a group dinner of chicken fried steak available at Indian Lodge before moving our party to Prude’s Ranch, just down the road in Ft. Davis for an evening of music, dancing, and probably a few stories. Western attire is encouraged, but that just means jeans, etc. We would like you to bring something specific to the area you live in, gift wrapped or gift sacked, for a door prize at the dance, if you would like to. We’ve done that before, and it is really fun. |
Sunday, October 8, 2006
| Breakfast | A breakfast buffet is available in the Indian Lodge restaurant. | |
| 9:30 am | Carol Lewis will be having a brunch for the class of 1956 at her home in Sunny Glen. Other classes may come, but you must sign up (on the form) so she will know how many to expect. | |
| am | Attending the church of your choice, visiting in the large and small conference rooms, sight seeing, and golf, are also some options for Sunday morning. | |
| Lunch | Nothing scheduled. | |
| Afternoon | We will have guitar strummers and singers (I hope many will contribute and participate), and a sing along for those of us less talented. Dominos and cards will be available for any who want to play. | |
| Evening | A group meal of enchiladas and the trimmings available for those interested. We plan a fiesta theme, but are not sure what that will entail yet. If you have ideas, let me know! |
Monday, October 9, 2006
| Breakfast | A continental breakfast is available in the large conference room, and visiting until you need to head back home. |
At this time we would like to collect fees for meals, and a number of people participating, etc. I know that October sounds a long way off, but have you noticed how time seems to pass more quickly these days? October will be here before we know it, and we need a head count for meals for the Indian Lodge Staff to prepare for us. Also, Bill Davis has offered to have $5.00 tee shirts printed for all those who are interested in purchasing one. Our class did that several reunions ago and took a group picture in really nice purple shirts with gold lettering that said “Young Bucks” for the 1950’s reunion. I must say we looked well organized, suave, and charming. And, that picture is a treasure to us all too. So if you are interested we need you to sign up for the shirt(s) as well.
We are going to have
soooooo much fun! It will be fun just seeing everyone and visiting even if
we didn’t have any activities. However, I think your reunion committee
has come up with some really neat things for you to do as well.
Please fill out the reservation form I have included and mail it back to me,
along with whatever total of fees you come up with after you make your
selections. The sooner you can return it to me the better. If you are
like me, when I put it off to later, or lay it aside, I either lose it or
forget it altogether, and think I have already taken care of it. Of
course, you don’t ever do anything like that I am sure! We can of course
let a few additional people come at the last minute, if they are unable to
decide or make plans at this time, but there may not be enough food if we
don’t give an accurate count to the people preparing the food. I wouldn’t
want that to happen! You can contact me about anything and at just about
any time! Carol Lewis of the class of 1956 and I will coordinate
information to make sure we have your registration and meal reservation
information as you select on the included form.
Hope to see you soon!!!
